There’s something absolutely wonderful about an outfit that manages to look adorable and comfortable at the same time. This Fashionista didn’t need overdone hair, high-maintenance makeup or heaps of bows to look cute. Instead, she used one popular summer piece to perfect her outfit and flaunt her style. The piece she chose was a pair of high-waist shorts.
Just a few short years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to understand this trend. I was still trying to avoid the high school staple, low-rise short shorts, by wearing Burmuda shorts and prairie skirts. Without any good examples, I would have thought wearing high-waist shorts was as difficult as pulling off harem pants (a practice carried on almost exclusively by celebrities, though I commend anyone else gutsy enough to try.)
I've been proven wrong. If these past few years hadn't done it, today's Fashionista would've sealed the deal. Her plain black high-waist shorts don't need any big buttons or wacky prints to be sublime, and a matching belt is her only accessory. A long sleeve T-shirt isn't normally considered eye-catching, but it provides the only real pop of color here. When I want to add something to a black and white outfit, I normally go for bright red. This Fashionista is inspiring by opting for a beautiful ocean blue instead. The fact that it displays a positive message is icing on the cake. This isn't anything raunchy, sassy or pop culture-based. It's a simple, stand-out message that can speak to everyone. Pretty black sandals add a more sophisticated touch than flip-flops without threatening to steal the show.
If you really want a shirt with good vibes, I suggest purchasing one whose profit goes to a good cause. Invisible Children supports the people of Uganda and sells some pretty cool shirts, including this 3D tee. After all, one of the best ways to send a positive message is to peacefully act on your beliefs.
