STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Not-So-Basic White T-Shirt

Style Advice of the Week

There is nothing more comfortable than the classic white T-shirt. For years, I could not get enough white tank tops and V-necks. In fact, I was so obsessed with these basics, that my friends would actively stop me from picking up yet another white top while shopping. Despite my friends’ intervention, I am not ashamed of my love of white T-shirts. The classic white shirt when paired with the proper jeans and accessories can look effortlessly chic.

Obviously, you cannot just wear a plain white T-shirt with jeans and sneakers and expect people to stop you awestruck. Well, I guess unless you are wearing a spectacular pair of sneakers. Therefore, I like to give my white T-shirt a little boost with a pop of leopard or bright red in a pair of flats or tasteful heels.

But this Fashionista takes a slightly different approach with how to give her white T-shirt its own feel. From her black booties, motorcycle jacket and beanie, it is clear that this Fashionista takes this blank canvas and makes it into her own. But what intrigues me the most by her white T-shirt based outfit is the shirt itself. This is not your average white V-neck. Instead it has a unique cut, falling like a dress from the back.

For this new take on the basic white T-shirt, there are some great options out there. My first instinct was to look at NASTY GAL for something in this style. I love this scoop neck shirt with a sheer back as well as this cape T-shirt. However, if you prefer the oversized boyfriend look or if you are the classic T-shirt kind of girl, American Apparel has got your back.
