I often fear monotony from the fall runways; the same autumn tones, the structured jacket. There are the staples (military jacket, maroon colored pants) and then there are the surprises. Fashion doesn’t cower from a hint of surprise — it creates it. Which is why when I saw summer’s brightly patterned prints strutting down the fall runway I was quite proud of couture for maintaining the element of surprise.
I similarly applauded this Fashionista as she maintained her own element of surprise — combining fall color schemes with transitional prints. While fall doesn’t quite have a light at the end of it’s cold tunnel, this Fashionista stays bright through the season in her electric blue tank. This year’s runways were painted black and electric blue, from Marc Jacobs’ shockingly colored floral to Stella McCartney’s ornately patterned coat. She also gives a nod to fall’s monochromatics with her slightly darker toned tennis shoes.
Despite her tank's bright color, this Fashionista plays it safe against clashing patterns and allows the focus to remain mainly on her printed jeans. While she chooses to strut her stuff on the way to class, this snakeskin pattern can also be a great attention grabber for a fun night out paired with a black blazer and top. For a more comfortable option, check out ASOS for fun prints on legging and Polyvore for even crazier patterned pant options.
While it’s always great to pull out that structured coat as the leaves begin to fall, try your own element of surprise and enjoy this fall’s brightly colored patterns.
