Oversized sweaters are to December as marshmallows are to hot cocoa. They just go together. The key to rocking the oversized cardigan is to wear just the right (yet, too big) size. Otherwise, you’re left drowning in it, and you look sloppy.
This Fashionista got her large sweater just right. It’s loose and free fitting, but it doesn’t swallow her. She wears a black long sleeved knit shirt underneath to contrast colors.
What I loved about her oversized cardigan is the fact that it’s a button-up. It has a semi-shawl feel, and she matched her knit shirt to the bold, black buttons on the front.
`Because the beige-brown color fits so well with the black, she continued this color scheme all the way down with black skinny jeans and black riding boots.
A tan MARC BY MARC JACOBS satchel and MARC BY MARC JACOBS watch add a checkmark to the accessory department.
For an almost identical oversized batwing cardigan, try Polyvore. Nordstrom has lovely black skinnies and Gap has long sleeved knit shirts (which you can also find at stores like Target, JC Penney and other affordable retailers). Vince Camuto has gorgeous black riding boots, and the MARC BY MARC JACOBS accessories are available at department stores like Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom.
This Fashionista is winter-ready. For those semi-brisk days you don’t necessarily need a winter coat, a sweater layered over a long sleeved shirt is just what the stylist ordered. It’s trendy, and with the right accessories, it transforms into a classic outfit. I don't know anyone who doesn't like oversized sweaters; they're comfy and they're adorable. If you haven't experienced the wonders of an oversized cardigan, I surely hope you find one under your tree this year.
