STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Bag Says It All

Style Advice of the Week

While it’s no secret that I love traveling, the commute from Los Angeles to Madison can get a little old. Long flights and bus rides have become quite tedious seeing as I’m halfway through my senior year, but this plane ride back to Madison I couldn’t really complain – Sex and the City: The Movie was playing for the duration of my flight. Nothing really passes the time better than watching the great styling of Patricia Field on Carrie Bradshaw as she wonders the streets of New York City. I found myself tearing up at the scene where she give her assistant her very first Louis Vuitton bag, which brings me to this week’s fabulous Fashionista.

With the best arm candy there is, this Fashionista sports a Speedy Louis Vuitton bag. There is something about the brown hues and signature monograms that make this bag timeless. Let’s be real here — this thing is pricey, but once you have one you will never let it sit in the back of your closet with the dust bunnies. When I’m no longer a struggling college student and have a steady income (and stop buying so many shoes…) you can mark my words that my first big purchase will be one of these bad boys. It's versatility makes it perfect for most outfits. Day or night, casual or fancy, it’s the perfect complement. This Fashionista executes it perfectly by partnering it with a pair of olive green pants. In the winter time, the combination of brown and olive green provide an earthy, warm feeling that is perfect for time in the library or hanging out with friends.

To top off her outfit she adds a pop of color with her pink shoes. With the simplicity of her outfit, the shoes add that last little pizazz that makes a great look complete. Although it’s wintertime, try a pair of bold boots or leopard sneakers. Just because it’s gloomy out doesn’t mean our outfits have to be gloomy!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Bag Says it All

Uncategorized

When I saw this Fashionista on campus, I knew right away that I needed to track her down! I have been dying to get a cute bag to have on campus to replace the annoying backpack that I have been sporting since junior high, and she definitely was a great inspiration to me.

While the label says Oscar De La Renta, she scored this bag at a local Goodwill for only three dollars. Suppressing my jealously for this steal, I asked her what inspired her to get this particular bag and she nailed everyhting I had been looking for in a new school back. With a lighter load of classes in the summer, it i not as practical to lug around a huge backpack. Go ahead, get the cute messenger bag that has a lot more style.  Also, these kinds of bags come with a lot of hidden pockets that are great for organizing some of the smaller things needed for class.

I took the liberty of looking up several different options at different price points to inspire different looks. For a more structured look, I like the Edie tote from J.Crew. The tote is plenty big to fit your notebooks and most likely even for your laptop on the way to class. It also has a new leather finish that makes it look polished and very chic. Next I went to my go to accessory store, Forever 21, and found a more relaxed messenger-style bag that came in a cream leather color. Perfect for summer and even possibly the fall, the bag has plenty of pockets on the interior and exterior for your things. Last but not least are the totes that I found from Old Navy. The bag is linen and dyed in either a coral pink or light blue color. With its brown leather straps and draw-string feature at the top, this tote is super cute and very functional.
