I spotted this Fashionista on her way from class and the first thing that caught my attention was her use of prints. She kept the prints grounded by keeping them within a similar color palette. Lots of people like to work with only one pattern within an outfit, but my challenge for every Fashionista this week is to think outside of the box and try two prints with very similar tones of color. If done correctly you can pair your patterned items with a cool pop of color in a muted tone, or you can add in brown or black to pull the entire look together. Mixing prints is an interesting way to give attitude and personality to an outfit, as well as get some mileage out of wardrobe pieces you would have never thought to wear together.
Designers have always mixed patterns and textures on the runways. It seems as though once the trends meet the general public, we have shyed away from experimenting in this area. Drawing inspiration from Miu Miu and Prada this fall, be daring enough to try different textures as well. This week's Fashionista has combined a few of these trends within her outfit. Her patterned sweater is gray but it's also a textured knit that has been thrown over a dress with a different texture but a similar color toned pattern. To complete her look she added some tights, socks in a light navy color to bring out the blue in her skirt and some camel ankle boots. Try having fun this week putting together an outfit that screams daring, outgoing and stylish.
To recreate this look try a patterned cropped sweater like this version from Forever 21 or this one from Express. You can find similar dresses with cool patterns like this one from ASOS. Another cool option would be this Aztec drop waist number from Charlotte Russe. Have fun this week trying out this trend and don’t be afraid to think outside of the box.
