Before you organize your closet and unceremoniously shove your summer clothes towards the back, check out this new fashion movement. Shorts aren’t just for summertime anymore. One of my favorite trends of this season is shorts with tights. CollegeFashionistas everywhere have been seen rocking this trend, while also mixing it with others. They’re not pairing daisy dukes with tights, but rather, velveteen cords and high-waist trouser shorts, which hit the leg about mid-thigh. Fashionistas are often choosing black printed tights, which is a really popular item this winter and adds texture to any outfit. The shorts and tights duo is a more sophisticated alternative to the common mini-skirt, and looks good on every body shape.
This CofC Fashionista is wearing multiple trends from this season including a fur vest by Rachel Zoe and a gray infinity scarf from American Apparel. What caught my eye is the fact that she’s wearing all of the hottest trends, but they all work together effortlessly in this ensemble. Most of her items are neutral, but she adds a pop of color with her maroon velveteen shorts from Juicy Couture. This color draws attention to the lower half of her outfit and to her printed floral tights. She finishes it off with a pair of combat boots from Lucky, leaving them partially unlaced to show off her socks.
Black tights are a good option if you are experimenting with this trend; however, colored tights can be worn as well. Try a pair of black shorts, like these from Lulus, paired with these Mulberry tights from Asos. This pop of color is subtle but still adds flair to any outfit.
