STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Stylin’ In The Rain

Style Advice of the Week

When it’s cold and rainy outside the last thing we want to do as college students is trek across campus to make it to class. As soon as you start thinking about what you’re going to wear for the rainy day ahead, staying in your warm sweats sounds the most appealing. Today’s Fashionisto color blocks with white, gray, black and a bold rain jacket.

Instead of opting for baggy sweatpants that will drag in the rain, choose a pair of darkwash jeans similar to this pair from American Appareal. Refrain from any light colored paints, especially khaki, a darker wash is perfect for rainy days because it shows less rain spots. Since rainboots can be cumbersome, take a hint from this Fashionisto and pair your jeans with high-tops.

A dependable rain jacket is essential for surviving rainy days on campus. Instead of sticking to a basic black. Today’s Fashionisto chooses a bright red jacket, similar to this one from Urban Outfitters. Red breaks up the tones of black and prevents his outfit from becoming monotonous. If you’re not comfortable with vibrant colors, opt for a classic trench coat. This classic coat can take any outfit from a basic look to old Hollywood glamour.

When your motivation for schoolwork starts to dwindle and the cold rain isn’t helping, take the time to put together a real outfit. The weather may not give you something to smile about, but the compliments you receive for your stylish outfit sure will.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Stylin

All About Beauty

Let’s skip the April showers and move onto the May flowers. Who’s with me? Unfortunately, we can’t control this crazy Columbia weather, but we can still adapt our wardrobes to it! I love spotting Fashionistas that are not afraid to rough the elements and wear a bold color on a rainy day. By throwing on a bright coat, your outfit will stand out against a sea of black and gray that is always (and unfortunately) prevalent on a wet and dreary afternoon.

Of course, Burberry is known for their classic trench coats, which are perfect for the spring and fall, but colored and patterned coats are becoming more popular this season. With Marc by Marc Jacobs incorporating polka dots and Michael Kors designing a cranberry color, I am happy to announce this trend is here to stay. Today’s Fashionista made her coat stand out even more by wearing a contrasting black dress underneath. This allows her to easily go from school to work, simply by adding an outer layer. I love this chartreuse coat from ModCloth; the color will vamp up any outfit, and it is also the ideal price for a college student.

Want to make a bigger statement? If this floral patterned trench doesn’t say spring, I don’t know what does. Pair this bold outwear with simple pieces, like this Fashionista. Her Tory Burch flats and casual black dress don’t make the outfit overbearing, which is easy to do when wearing bright clothing. Be daring with color, especially on rainy days because no Fashionista should ever blend into the crowd!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Stylin

Uncategorized

Last week the rain clouds began rolling in and Athens began its own littler version of monsoon season. Between the temperature changes and the sudden downpours, students on campus have to be prepared for just about everything. Dressing for the weather can be very hard at times, so whenever I see a Fashionista really working it despite the storms I have to give her some major credit.

This Fashionista was caught on Milledge Ave. beginning her trek to campus. She was perfectly prepared for class with both an umbrella and a cardigan in her tote bag. Also her rain boots were a great combination of functionality and fashion as she incorporates animal prints into her outfit. Finally, her black cutout dress is both cute and lightweight for when the weather unexpectedly heats up.

Hint: Rain boots can range in price and styles. Target always has cute, funky styles in a variety of colors for a very affordable price. If you are looking for a more durable or higher quality boot, don’t be afraid to look at places like Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, or smaller boutiques around town for designer rain boots. I personally love Hunter rain boots because they offer a reliable pair of boots in classic styles.
