While strolling down Boylston Street in Boston, I spotted this street style savvy Fashionisto posted up on a street corner, cool as an alley cat. After meeting and speaking with him for a while, I had the pleasure of learning much more about the world of street fashion than I had known before. He works for Karmaloop, the world’s largest online retailer of streetwear, and encouraged me to check out the site saying “I’ll fall in love.” He may have sensed that I am a helpless romantic — but he was right — I’m headphones over high heels for Karmaloop.
Street style is an up and coming look and is taking the fashion industry by storm. Celebrities such as Miley Cyrus are crushing the street style look lately as she has been seen rocking a pair of black studded platform sneakers, much like these Jeffrey Campbell Homgs on Karmaloop. The latest street style that I have come across is studding; everything from sneakers, iPhone cases, jackets, pets and shorts have studded accents on them, playing into that street style feel (I hope you realize I was kidding about the pet part — that’s called animal cruelty and is illegal, not stylish). A really awesome D.I.Y video on YouTube teaches you how to stud your own clothing, and can turn any vintage jean jacket or high-waist cutoffs into a unique streetwear piece.
As for this Fashionisto, he is wearing a striped sleeveless tank with a pair of jean cutoffs that he claimed to have made just that morning… impressive. But what originally caught my eye was his hat: a summer beanie that can be found in many different colors and styles on Karmaloop. His kicks are fresh to death…okay sorry, I’m getting a little ahead of myself. But really, his sneakers match the color of his beanie, which really helps to pull the whole look together. This Fashionisto’s outfit is flawlessly assembled, with an edgy, yet clean-cut vibe that screams streetwear. So please don’t let your lack of rap knowledge or your distance away from any major city discourage you from checking out streetwear and Karmaloop. I’m not trying to brag, but some people call me Missy Elliot and I rock a pair of high tops better than Beyoncé.
