Style Advice of the Week

Velvet. Rich, smooth and easy for anyone to add into their closets and outfits. Over the years I have seen velvet slowly make its way back into the shelves of many stores and each time I see it I fall in love with it a little more. This season the velvet trend is signed, sealed and delivered. Designers such as Balmain, Altuzarra, Gucci and Lanvin all showed amazing velvet pieces in their FW 2012 collections ranging from in different colors, shapes and patterns. The best part about this trend is that it is readily available for any Fashionista!

This season you can find almost any piece of clothing in velvet from blazers to skirts to dresses. You can keep your look simple like Lanvin, or spice it up by wearing velvet in different colors like Gucci. This Fashionista chose to keep her look Lanvin-simple. Her black velvet skirt looks great with a plain tank and tights and combat boots to give her look some edge.

The key to wearing velvet is to only wear one piece of velvet at a time. I love velvet as much as the next person but velvet, on velvet, on velvet can be an overkill. Items like these shorts, this skirt and these leggings all from Topshop, are a great additions for anyones closet. This dress from ASOS and this blazer from NASTY GAL are also perfect velvet pieces for any Fashionista. Whether you go for an Altuzarra velvet blazer look or a Balmain velvet pants look, velvet for this season is a must!
