With summer 2011 just around the corner, the birds are chirping, the So Cal sun is shining and, most importantly, the seventies are making their stylish return to a modern girl’s wardrobe. Fashion Week marked the arrival of this trend with Marc Jacobs’s wide-legged trouser, Prada’s electric colors and prints and Emilio Pucci’s long, flowing dresses making their way down the catwalks of New York and Milan. However, as most of us cannot afford such luxurious attire on a college student’s budget, it’s time to look through our moms’ storage and head to some vintage or thrift shops! Fashionistas, your groovy new pieces are waiting to be uncovered.
Despite this spring’s fun and funky '70s throwback and L.A.’s warm, beachy weather, the disco party is in pause as us Bruins must devote these next couple of weeks to our merciless finals. The stress of studying didn’t stop this Fashionista from coming out to face her exams in style. When I ran into her, I was over-excited to see a '70s flashback right before my eyes.
Hint: Recreate her '70s style using some Free People flared jeans and this top from Planet Blue. If you’re daring, find something animal printed, or be a disco diva and wear a cute jumpsuit. I love bold seventies jewelry, too (like pieces from Nicole Ricci’s House of Harlow 1960). Wide-brimmed hats, long belted skirts or bohemian dresses and neon lips are some of my favorites. Don’t forget your platforms, like Jeffrey Campbell’s Foxy or these black wedges from Urban Outfitters, and some 70’s shades.
