STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Ready for Combat

Style Advice of the Week

Whether it’s for parking or a good grade in a dreaded class, UCF students are always ready for a fight. The Fashionistas on campus in particular dress for one as well. Constantly seen strutting down the sidewalk in a pair of combat boots, these girls aren’t to be messed with.

This Fashionista takes her combat boots to the next level, adding edgy silver studs across the toe and around the heel. With laces undone, she looks carefree in the most refined way possible with her delicate cream button-up blouse tucked into a pair of black shorts. She complements her combat boots with a heavy load of accessories including a chunky silver necklace and a spiked double-finger ring. Oh, and her chic tortoiseshell sunglasses, polished head of curls and black nail polish? Those details are just icing on the cake.

Combat boots resurfaced into the fashion scene when the military trend took off a few years back. Though they look impeccable when worn with an army green utility jacket, they also crossover into the 90s grunge trend that’s making its way back into this decade thanks to spring 2013 collections like 3.1 Phillip Lim’s. So head up into your attic, dust off those old, oversized flannels and denim cut-offs and lace up these combat boots from Need Supply Co. for your new go-to outfit.

For a look that balances sophistication with edge as seen on this Fashionista, start off with a silk button-up from Madewell and pair it with the High-Waist Burgundy Leather Shorts from Pixie Market. Finally, throw in some studs with the Brava Spike Boots from NASTY GAL.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Ready for Combat

Style Advice of the Week

This Fashionisto is starting a male trend that I have never seen on the University of Rhode Island's campus — he is wearing a pair of amazing studded combat boots! This is the first time I have seen a Fashionisto wearing an item and thought to myself, “I must have those!” What I love most about his boots is that they are different than the average pair of lace-up combat boots. The studded piece of the boot actually wraps around the Fashionisto's ankle, which give the boots a unique touch.

His accessories also add so much to the overall appearance of his ensemble. He wore one simple studded bracelet on his arm, and a pair of fingerless gloves with Jack Skellington, the protagonist from The Nightmare Before Christmas — which I think gives his look a much darker feel.

I also love how he chose to pair these boots with a pair of tight skinny jeans! This is an outfit I recommend for any Fashionisto.

When I asked the Fashionisto where he found his combat boots, he told me to check out Amazon.com. I had never thought of Amazon as a fashion website, but it has a great selection, if you have the time to look. This pair of simple (and inexpensive) combat boots would be a great addition to any Fashionisto's closet.

For any Fashionistas looking to incorporate this trend into their own wardrobe, I recommend taking a unique spin on it. Almost every girl owns a pair of combat boots now, so to stand out, I encourage trying a pair of combat-inspired boots. Check out these great heels by Steve Madden. If you want to accessorize the way this Fashionisto did, I also recommend a more feminine bracelet, such as this one by Vince Camuto. It's edgy, but still feminine.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Ready for Combat

Uncategorized

In typical Spokane fashion just when we thought spring might be upon us, this wonderful city gifted us with nines inches of snow and a snow day. The cold weather and the layers of ice covering the sidewalks of campus are a perfect opportunity to wear layers of clothing and statement shoes that are practical and stylish. As we know, fashion trends recycle themselves and this fall we were reintroduced to combat boots. The recent fashion shows in New York showed us what is expected for fall 2011 and military pieces are just gaining steam. Leather bomber jackets and military inspired embellishments were seen all over the runways. These boots bring a new meaning to leather and lace and can ad an edgy, modern flare to any outfit.

Lace-up combat boots have been a unisex trend and are a great way to transition from winter to spring. Girls, pair boots with tights and a dress or jean shorts and a sweater to take your combat boots trans-seasonal. Free People has many options for combat boots from ankle to knee high length. Nordstrom has a great pair of white troopa boots that I adore; the off-white color plays down the bold boots with a soft, girly spin. I gave these to my sister for Christmas and I am currently planning a shceme to steal back! Guys, dress up any everyday shirt, jeans, and vans routine with some lace-up combat boots for a subtle but bold look. Take a hint from this fashionisto who rocked his lace-up combat boots with cuffed jeans and a tucked in flannel to give his look the finishing touch.

Keep this Fashionisto in mind when trying to balance the cold and transition into the spring weather we are all craving. Don’t be afraid to pull out some spring/summer pieces and mix them with items you have been wearing all winter!
