STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Printed Pants

Style Advice of the Week

Over the past couple of seasons, there has been no trend more prominent than the printed pant. From spring's bright florals; to summer's psychedelic designs; to fall's geometric patterns, these unique trousers are here to stay. While approaching the printed pant may seem a little daunting, you shouldn't be afraid to experiment with them.

Just like this Fashionista—she wasn't afraid to slip into a pair of metallic printed trousers for a night out on the town. She paired them with a simple black flat and black blouse to accentuate the cropped pants. The chunky coral necklace added additional color to the ensemble. This Fashionista had the perfect outfit for a casual night out with friends and could even rock this look on date night.

While we all love our black skinny jeans, it's important to step out of your comfort zone. This trend may seem a little daunting at first, but the great thing is that printed pants come in all different colors and cuts. Try anything from a wide leg to a structured cigarette cut to find the right cut that accentuates your form and fits with your personal style. Opt for a wide leg trouser like these ASOS Paisley Print Pants for a laidback bohemian look, or try a slim cropped cigarette cut like this Zara Printed Trouser when headed to work for a fashion-forward professional look.

For the adventurers out there, go for the whole suit! I've got my eye on this ASOS Pant and Blazer in Art Nouveau Print. Make sure that the printed suit you chose can be broken up; you'll be able to create dozens of new outfits with either just the blazer or just the pants. What I like about this suit is the dark color palette and the boyfriend cut blazer. Definitely go dark and subdued when choosing a printed pant and blazer ensemble.

If you're still skeptical about rocking this look on a night out with friends, date night or even at work, holiday season is here! Don't get me wrong—I love a good holiday dress. But in a sea of sequined cocktail dresses, you'll stand out in a pair of bright trousers. Try a metallic print like this Fashionista with a chunky heel and sleeveless blouse for a holiday party. Or go for these ASOS Tapestry Print Pants with a black bootie and knit sweater at a family dinner. You'll find there's a color, cut and print for any occasion, so no excuses!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Harem Pants

Style Advice of the Week

This season there’s no trend more fun than a fabulous pair of print pants. Playful and colorful, these eye-catching bottoms will have you leaving a statement. But, it’s even better when they’re in the form of harem pants. Harem pants might be the season's trickiest trend, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try a pair out— just make sure you wear the right accessories with them. Sure, they looked adorable on Jasmine in Aladdin, but how many people can rock them in real life? Harem pants, just like Hammer pants, are one bizarre fashion trend that have become one of the season's most popular looks. The drop-crotched, sometimes billowy, oft drapey genie trouser are like so many trends translated from the runway to real life: dangerously unflattering if not done just right. This week's Fashionista rocks a pair of leopard print harem paints paired with a simple denim jacket and minimal jewelry. It’s all about learning the basic styling rules while adapting to blend with your personal style. When it comes to styling your pretty prints opt for a solid colored blouse, letting your printed pants do all the fashion work for you. But, if they’re solid harem pants, balance them out by sticking with fitted tops. Like most things in life, the harder you work—or in this case, search—the more fruitful the rewards of your labor. So, make sure you find the pair of harem pants that flatter your body. There is bad, yes, but there is also better, and if you're persistent, you can reach perfection. Not all trend interpretations are created equally.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Printed Pants

Style Advice of the Week

With fall quickly approaching, I've begun shopping for some back-to-school staple items. I'm always looking for new ways to spice up my wardrobe and I'm always willing to try out new trends. I think that working one out of the box piece into your wardrobe will really help any Fashionista push their own style limits. I believe that printed pants are really bold and would make any outfit pop.

I've always been intrigued by printed pants but I never could bite the bullet and buy them. But after talking with this Fashionista about how she styles the pants and the overall comfort of the material, I will for certain be purchasing my first pair. These ikat print harem pants are made with a really fun print, but it is still passive enough to not overwhelm the outfit. When I asked her about the comfort level she said, “it's like wearing pajamas.” That's all I needed to hear. To look that cute and feel like pajamas who wouldn't want to rock these?

This Fashionista really let the pants be the focal point of the outfit and kept her top very simple. A neutral tube top is a really versatile item and can be worn on its own or it can be used as a layering piece. I think that this Fashionista did well with mixing different fabrics in this outfit. The tightness of the the top contrasts to the loose fit of the harem pant. When putting together an outfit you want to be sure to pay attention to the different fabrics. Often if you pair a loose fitting top with a similar bottom your shape can be lost and not portray a flattering look on your figure.

For jewelry this Fashionista kept it simple with a crystallized rock pendant necklace. A similar style of necklace can be found at this shop on Etsy. However, don't think just because you are wearing a strapless shirt you have to decorate your chest with a necklace. I often like to wear large earrings or an assortment of bangles instead. Finally, for shoes this Fashionista chose a pair of strappy sandals but a pair of boots or flats would work just as well with this outfit.

So if you are looking to make a change to your wardrobe I suggest throwing a pair of printed harem pants into the mix. Pants like these are a game changer and will surely set you apart from your classmates.
