STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Olive Green is the New Black

One of my biggest epiphanies this winter season is that olive green has really come through as the latest neutral color that is very popular for girls and guys. Walking around campus and seeing students really embrace this trend, especially when used in military inspired outfits makes me happy. I know at Iowa State we are definitely not over the military craze and hope it gets carried into the spring!

I think that olive green has been the savior this season for the winter blues. I know from moseying around campus that everything from a small accessory to a winter coat is being sported in olive. My favorite way to rock the military look is when it’s done with a feminine touch to balance it out. This Fashionista’s long flowing hair, tall boots, and skinny jeans give off a very soft and simple look that doesn’t make the outfit too much. Since military is a very masculine look, I really enjoy when the coats are either belted or fitted, like this one, to make your outfit look very put together.

My advice this week would be to ride out the winter tones, especially the new favorite, olive green, before we move on to springy colors. The great part about this color is that it can go with blacks, browns, silver, or gold and really has no restrictions. It is a very neutral color, yet isn’t boring or limiting. You could even try pairing it with bright or neon colors as you start your wardrobe transition. If you haven’t already caught on to the trend, make sure you add olive green to your wardrobe in one way or another!
