Every season it’s easy to get sucked into buying the latest trends and styles, but how often do you wear those pieces afterwards? Though it might be in, your love for them kind of fades with the trend, and before you know it, your closet is filled with clothes you’ll never wear again. Which is why I have a growing love for vintage shopping.
This week’s Fashionista is dressed head to toe in vintage finds, except the necklace. From sunglasses to shoes, each piece in her outfit cost less than ten dollars from local Value Villages and church sales, except her necklace which is a piece from Hush Von Osafo on Queen Street West. I know I’ve clearly stressed this enough, but nothing beats layering in the summer. This Fashionista pairs a long sleeveless vest with a bandeau and skirt. What makes this outfit what it is though is the accessories. Headband, sunglasses, hoop earrings, necklace, belt, handbag and shoes. Normally I forget how important accessorizing is, but it really puts an outfit together.
Simply wearing bandeaus or bustier tops this summer has been a growing trend. If you’re worried about it’s shorter appearance, high-waist shorts, skirts or pants are the perfect match as they elongate your lower half and provide higher coverage. For this look pair a bandeau or bustier top with high-waist bottoms and accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. To keep the top from looking too bare, a statement necklace is the perfect choice. And of course the summer basics: sunglasses, purse and wedges. So next time you’re planning on going on a stopping spree, why not check out a local second hand store instead of the mall. It might take some digging, but it’s totally worth finding that new wardrobe favorite for under twenty dollars!
