I must say I have always enjoyed the simplicity of life’s summer pleasures. There is no doubt the pressure of school has disappeared and become nothing but a distant and forgotten memory. My mind is now set on the luxuries ahead. For some of us, including myself, in between this vacation of boating, sunbathing, and evenings eating outside on a balcony, this time away from schoolwork also includes a summer job back home.
However, there are the light, unambiguous moments I can appreciate when I make my trek to work through the fashion Mecca of downtown Bellevue. I can almost guarantee that when I cross the sky bridge from the parking lot to the mall I will be witnessing a mini fashion runway. Right above the busy and buzzing Main Street is where I came across this fabulous Fashionista! Cruising the sky bridge on her way in to begin her day of working, she stopped me in my tracks with a transcending look I had to share with all of you. This Fashionista addressed one of the major wardrobe challenges many college students tend to face. It is that period of time in which we wish to transition from a day at work, to a night tearing down the town without a total outfit change, drum roll please… cue in the maxi skirt! As one of this summer’s hottest trends the maxi skirt has given a whole new meaning to comfort and style as we know it. With an array of options available from the slimming, more fitted black maxi skirt seen on today’s Fashionista, to print and hippie chic, the options are limitless! Find one similar to this one available at T.B.D in Nordstrom or if you prefer more color and bohemian-inspired prints check out and type in "maxi skirt" in the search engines of Urban Outfitters or Free People. What I love most about this CollegeFashionista as a working girl, is that she is dressed for success at work, staying classy and professional, but all she has to do to spice up her attire is to add some spunky jewelry, and fearless heels or wedges and she is a rockstar for the evening! The maxi skirt is flattering to any body shape and size, which makes it a must-have piece for everybody’s closet. Whether you pair it with a casual, flowing, peasant top for a boat ride around the lake, or a sexy tight tank you’ll be sure to be looking your best and fit for any occasion. This Fashionista chose to keep it appropriate for her daytime schedule at work, pairing her maxi skirt with a neutral beige top. The key is that she added that essential glitz and glamour as well with her vintage-inspired chunky bracelet, embellished sandals from Target, and assorted colored rings she has collected from her travels around the world. Not to mention the adorable and vibrant colored hobo clutch, which leaves us complete with every tiny detail of her outfit.
My advice? When we find an item that can transition from work to play like the maxi skirt, just don’t forget in addition to these key items to jazz up with a little sparkle for the night on the town. This look is sure to elude effortless beauty, create a professional presence at work, and turn heads on the dance floor.
