Style Advice of the Week

For my last CollegeFashionista post as a Style Guru for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, I want to give you all a solid fall Fashionista look. While Knoxville has been graced with many stylish people, I had to showcase last, but not least, the leather jacket. Since Tennessee cannot decide what type of weather it is going to be consistent with, a leather jacket is the perfect layer for the indecisive temperatures. Leather jackets are a classic piece. Most may argue with this statement, but if you really think about it, they’ve been around for quite some time. They came about in war times for military aviators. They soon evolved into a uniform for most motorcycle riders. Once they reached that level, it was what the “cool” or rebellious people wore. For the fashion world, it is an iconic layer that every Fashionista or Fashionisto needs in his or her wardrobe.

This Fashionista’s tan leather jacket caught my attention from across the street. It is such a big trend right now, so I was happy to see it in action. I love how she paired it with her tan booties. They are perfect for dressing up a casual outfit and aren’t so bad to walk in up and down these Knoxville hills. Skinny jeans are also a basic that can look good paired with almost anything. They help contrast her shape with her flowy shirt that is layered underneath the jacket. The leather jacket really pulls the outfit together by letting it be the statement piece. Her outfit would take on a completely different look without it.

The leather jacket can take on many forms. It can be cool and relaxed or feminine and chic with an edge. It comes in a variety of colors, but mostly neutrals. Black, brown, beige or grey are usually the most popular. For the more girly Fashionista trying to find the perfect leather jacket that isn’t so rough-around-the-edges, Zara has a lighter brown quilted jacket. There is very little hardware so it is more elegant. A leather jacket can make a statement when wearing for a going out outfit, especially with the colder weather. Pairing it with a simple top and a sequined mini skirt is a great way to make it fashion forward and fun for a night out. There are so many different styles of jackets that you can really customize it to your personal style. This is why every closet needs one.

I hope you enjoyed my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK this semester. Keep it stylish around Knoxville, Fashionistas and Fashionistos!
