I spotted this week's Fashionista strolling through Rittenhouse. She was impossible to miss. Sunday is usually my favorite day to photograph Fashionista's as everyone in Philly tends to dress up for brunch and other Sunday-funday activities. Her look struck me because she had so much going on, and still looked completely put together. Layering for the Philadelphia fall is essential as temperatures drastically fluctuate from unbearably hot to a crisp chill. I love that she chose to pile on the layers on top, leaving her legs nearly bare. Contrast, when done well is always eye-catching.
Chambray shirts are a staple for many college students, and this Fashionista shows how it can be accessorized and dressed up. She added layers of feminine touches, from her lace sweater and chiffon tiered skirt, to her jewelry. She kept her heels subtle in comparison to her outfit, which worked well with the overall contrast from top to bottom. She chose to wear her belt lower than I usually see, and it gave a peplum esque feel to her chambray. This outfit is proof that black and brown can be worn together. As for her bag, you can never go wrong with Chloé.
To get this Fashionista's look, play dress-up with your closet and experiment with layering pieces and textures you normally wouldn't. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to find new ways to wear what you already own will keep your closet feeling fresh. Start with a button-down of your choice and an oversized sweater or a sweet lace cardigan. Not too scary right? I'm in agreement with this Fashionista's choice of mini-skirt: implore to look for something ballerina-esque. I like this pleated skirt from Urban Outfitters. Stick to plain black tights and heels, with your favorite statement bag. Layering accessories will feel more natural after experimenting with different pieces – I suggest keeping your choices as girly as possible to maintain the feminine vibe that this Fashionista has.
This week try to play up your inner girly-girl and don't shy away from experimentation! Play dress-up and mix and match things you normally wouldn't. Pile on the jewelry and have fun with your fall look.
