STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Kick it into High Gear

Style Advice of the Week

When Isabel Marant made sneakers cool again it was a major relief to our feet. Because of the subtle wedge heel of the high tops, looking both casual and chic in a pair of jeans was totally doable. Then Leandra Medine reported about the versatility of her new Cross-Trainers, and it didn’t matter whether we were sporting Velcro closures or a Swoosh – we were ready to run.

Pulling our old Converse out of our closets, we turned to fluorescent laces and ribbons for quirky, eye-catching ensembles. The beauty of rocking the sneaker trend is that you’ll get just as many compliments as you would if you were wearing cute oxford pumps, and you’ll be ready to go.

This Fashionista is clearly prepped for a shopping day with an oversized bag and black skinnies. Her knit beanie gives off a chill vibe, but it’s easy to tell she’s ready to check off the errands on her to-do list.

Here’s the other thing I love about this outfit: her coffee cup matches perfectly with her Nikes. While she probably picked up her drink at the corner shop, you could always carry around an awesome to-go mug covered in a floral print.

But once you’re caffeinated, make sure you get your kicks. ASOS has a pair of suede Blazers with leather contrast detail and you can find Air Forces on Nike that are really similar to this Fashionista’s. If you like retro with a pop of neon, check out these wraparound straps and trust Betsey Johnson to provide you with zippers and studs.

For the girlier-girls who prefer pink, Urban Outfitters has got you covered with these SUPRA Party Skytops. Now the only question is: What to do with those laces? To tie or not to tie?
