STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Retro

Style Advice of the Week

Texas is going through a slow transition to autumn, with occasional rain, windy mornings and hot evenings. I can’t say that I can be happier. For us Fashionistas, seasonal transitions are the best times of the year. Now is the time when we can have the best of both worlds: the fun of summer and the mellowness of autumn. Mixing the different color pallets, patterns and length of the pieces I wear really get me excited. Fashion is truly about knowing the context and playing with the seasons.

Our Fashionista today plays with combining the summer look with fall denim color, summer’s floral prints and a fun retro makeup style. Her denim outfit is short and sweet, perfect for hot afternoons. Her bustier and the high-waist denim shorts somehow remind me of  Mad Men. This look can be dressed up with a full-skirt instead of the shorts or layered on with a boyfriend blazer or a cardigan. Layering is key and is probably my most favorite thing about transitioning into fall.

She fully understand the retro power of her look and had intentionally put on the darker color lips to play up the part. I am a bit jelous of how awesome her hair is. To be honest, not everyone can pull off the hairstyle and she definitely is rocking it. In addition to the awesome denim mix, great retro styling, she has on a great smile and mega confidence, and that’s truly what made her stand out from the crowd.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Maxed-Out

Uncategorized

If you have read the news the past few weeks, you know about the scorching heat wave that has descended in the East. With high humidity and temperatures over 90, it can be hard to stay fashionable here while keeping cool in the heat. By wearing a printed maxi dress and nude sandals, this Fashionista manages to stay on trend without baking in the sun. Maxi dresses, a summer staple, are a great way to stay cool without showing too much skin. This Fashionista makes this trend her own by choosing a shorter dress that still has the look of a maxi without dragging the ground. Try one in a light cotton with a smocked top like this Fashionista’s to highlight your waist and stay as cool as possible.

Even when its 100 degrees outside, you can always stay on trend with your shoes. This Fashionista’s sandals incorporate both the nude shoe trend that is everywhere this summer and the gladiator style sandal. A great thing about a nude shoe, besides the fact that they go with everything, is that they help even a light summer dress like this one look polished. By choosing this type of shoe over a basic flip-flop, this Fashionista gives her casual look a boost and looks much more put-together. To get this look, try these nude gladiators by asos.com.

Hint: To save on your back-to-school wardrobe, transition this look into the cooler months of fall by adding a fedora and jean jacket.
