Style Advice of the Week

Red has staked its claim on fashion time and time again. From the red lip to the red dress it continues to announce itself in stores and on the runway. Stepping out in the daring, bold color screams for attention and attention is exactly what you will get. Chloé, Donna Karan and many other designers thrust rich red ensembles onto their runways this fall.

While attempting to walk off at least a few bites of pumpkin pie after Thanksgiving overindulgence, I spotted this Fashionista strutting through downtown. Her red knee-length peacoat stood out from blocks away. When I finally reached her I noticed her timeless color combination hidden beneath the cozy coat. The red coat juxtaposed the black and white perfectly. Her look says retro 1950s with a touch of modern. The knitted white infinity scarf and black cords furthered the classy, cozy appeal. With this look no one will step on her black suede shoes.

This fall and winter red is ready to make its way into your closet in more than just coat form. Instead of springing for a red top, try the spicy shade in skinny jeans. These pants are bold enough so stick to black, white or gray on top like this Fashionista; otherwise, you might look like the color wheel attacked you. The pants may be brazen but pairing them with print is not out of the question as long as the print is subtle. For date night with your man or your best friend try a red dress and black tights with boots and gold accessories. If your favorite clothing color is black, then try red accessories like a cherry colored watch or earrings. To really stand out, step into scarlet heels or flats to automatically dress up any outfit.

Get ready to welcome red into your closet with open arms.
