Now that winter break has already come to its sad, sad end, it’s time to start prepping for your spring wardrobe!
This CollegeFashionista was spotted wearing a super sleek, neutral trench coat that kept her warm and dry. Any trench coat can be easily paired with just about every outfit, making it a classic and essential part of any wardrobe.
While trench coats were originally a component of the French and British uniforms during the First World War, they have long since evolved into a fashionable and practical wardrobe staple. The British luxury designer, Burberry, claims to have invented the first trench coat, and to this day, still designs some of the most classic (although expensive) jackets. For a similar, more affordable option, check out Target’s version of the trench coat.
Some of 2012’s latest designs also include more modern takes on the traditional trench coat. The trench coat can been transformed into a statement piece through brighter colors (rather than the neutral tans, blacks, whites and navy blues), different lengths or different prints. For those edgy Fashionistas, one by The Sway has designed a chic leather trench coat. Isaac Mizrah features a cute, feminine and colorful take on the classic design, and Marc by Marc Jacobs sells a bold, sexy, snakeskin-print cotton jacket.
Whether you want to channel your inner classy Kate Middleton or that bold Femme Fatal (think Megan Fox on the cover of Esquire), the trench coat is a perfect piece to add to your wardrobe.
