Style Advice of the Week

Faux fur is one of those items, whether you love it or hate it, which will always be trending in fall and winter. I’ve got to admit—I personally think faux fur works as one extreme to the other: totally chic or just plain tacky. That being said, it’s a little bit harder to style than your other fall trends (burgundy, faux leather and patterned trousers, to name a few) but no less worthy of giving it a go. They’re warm, perfect for layering and add texture to an outfit.

This week’s Fashionista styled her alice + olivia faux fur vest with dark emerald pants, a black long sleeve sweater (with another one of my favorite fall trends: patched elbows) and brown riding boots. A faux fur vest is a statement piece, so keeping your outfit simple is key. Try sticking with neutrals like white, beige and black. If you branch out with color, keep them dark like this Fashionista did with her pants. Fur vests tend to be boxy, so layer them with tighter pieces to keep your look balanced. Faux fur coats tend to follow the same guidelines—they look best paired with simple and neutral outfits. Pair this vest with a long sleeve, fitted black sweater and black skinny jeans. For a faux fur coat, my favorite look will always be a little black dress and oversized fur coat paired with black heels. Simple, sexy and a cruelty-free way to wear fur!
