Summer is finally approaching and as graduation is only a week away, I decided to cross some items off my bucket list: buy clothes that I may never wear at Goodwill, go crazy in a dollar store and eat a burger from a waitress on roller skates at Sonic (as a city girl, drive-ins utterly fascinate me). I ran into this Fashionista as I was slurping down my root beer float and was inspired by her simple but chic vintage style for my own shopping trip at Goodwill. This lady looks elegant but ready to have some fun in the sun in a flirty floral dress and some John Lennon-esque sunglasses. Florals were big this spring season as seen on the runway of the Luella, Prada and Richard Nicoll shows, and this summer expect the city streets to be “coming up roses.” This Fashionista follows the trend but in her own way, opting for a vintage floral dress and a more relaxed California look à la San Francisco hippies in 1969. She mixes her decade inspiration with a matching scrunchie on her wrist that looks as if it came right off of Clarissa from the ‘90s cult favorite television show Clarissa Explains it All.
To get a style like this flower child Fashionista, find the perfect flouncy floral dress. For a short and sweet number like this Fashionista’s, try this dress from NASTY GAL or this cute button-up Insight dress from Urban Outfitters. For a look like hers, pair the dress with a pair of brown leather lace-up flats like these brogues from Pixie Market and some round sunnies like these fancy Mykita sunglasses from Opening Ceremony, or these quirky ones with hearts on the lenses from ASOS. For an even more ‘90s-inspired look, try the floral dress with a pair of platform sneakers like these Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony ones (remember those sky high ones the Spice Girls wore?) and an pastel colored jean jacket from Tobi. Ladies, this summer remember to stop and smell the roses and let your free spirit soar in floral dresses and hippie-inspired sunglasses.
