STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Fancy Pants

Style Advice of the Week

From floral prints and brocade designs to ferocious animal prints, designers and brands alike are throwing away the traditional notion of a pair of jeans and amping it up this fall with bold and striking designs! This particular trend is one that I'm most excited about because its versatility and ease. Printed pants do the job for you: there's no fuss in making your outfit stand out, just throw on a pair with a fun design and your out the door!

There's a couple different ways to rock your fancy pants, one demonstrated by our Fashionista this week: literally rocking out your jeans! She gives the abstract design on her pants a rock 'n roll twist by pairing them with a graphic T-shirt and a pair of simple black sneakers. The simplicity of these two items balances the boldness of the jean, yet takes her outfit to the next level. Get this look by pairing these funky Forever 21 skinnies with a Zumiez oversized T-shirt and one of the season's trendiest sneakers, creepers.

Another way to style up these pants are to mix prints. Mixing prints was a big deal on the fall 2012 runway this year, Miu Miu being a big advocator of the look. I'm here to tell you getting the look isn't as hard as it seems. The key here is to mix a smaller print on the top with a loud print on the bottom, or vice versa, and to keep within the same color palette. A black and white striped top is your safest bet with any type of print on the bottom–-stripes and florals, stripes and leopard or stripes with polka dots all look chic and put together. Mix brocade designed Zara trousers, a Forever 21 3/4 sleeved striped tee and a pair of pointed toe pumps. Make this look internship apropriate by throwing on a fitted blazer.

Regardless if you dress them up or down, printed pants are sure to make a statement Fashionistas, so hop on the bandwagon!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Fancy Pants

Style Advice of the Week

A rainy day is not exactly a college student’s best friend. Getting out of bed in the morning, or afternoon if you are a true college kid, poses the initial challenge; however, continuing the day with a foggy head seems to last all day long. Before you can tackle the dreaded day, choosing what to wear plays a critical role in your morning routine. This Fashionista did not have a foggy head when she chose these floral pants to take on the weather.

Just like the sun peeking out from the clouds, this trend has emerged just as unexpectedly. Out with the old and in with the new. Give your beat up jeans a breather by breathing some life into your closet with trendy trousers. Many designers like Rochas and Juicy Couture are picking up on the trend this fall. They have inspired Fashionistas from New York Fashion Week’s street style to campuses nationwide. These printed pants are available in nearly any pattern from animal print to jewel toned designs. There are a plethora of bold bottoms to strike each and every fancy.

This Fashionista did not have trouble building a weather appropriate ensemble around her printed pants. The basic navy tank top was a great option for the miserably humid day as were her shoes for the looming puddles. The shoes, straight from Amsterdam, combine leather with metal embellishment embodying two fall trends. You too can look as effortless in pants of a similar floral print from the college budget friendly Forever 21 or this snazzy pair from Topshop. Go out on a limb and snatch up those floral pants.

Though this Fashionista seems to have pieced together her look effortlessly, you can also rock the printed pants trend in stride. The question of what to wear with the pants is not as daunting as it may seem. A printed top is an adventurous option as long as it balances out the pant’s print. To do so, couple this pant with a contrasting color or a similar hue like this look from ASOS. Another option is the basic neutral blouse. Try this spiced up basic blouse featuring the ever-adorable Peter Pan collar from H&M. It functions as a shirt and as an accessory with its beaded collar. These pants can be mixed and matched with a variety of tops you already own.

Put those pajama-clad students to shame when you strut across campus on a drizzly day in your fancy pants.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Fancy Pants

Uncategorized
It’s all about the legs. Leggings have dominated the pant sector for a while now but winter is recreating this trend with bold, fantastic prints and patterns. This Fashionista owns the legging look. She chose accessories that accentuate her unique, boho-chic style but do not compete with her statement floral piece. When channeling this look, make sure the leggings take center stage to the rest of your outfit. This means, neutral, complimentary colors and pieces. This Fashionista successfully experiments with shades of pink, brown, and gray.

Designers, celebrities, and fashion experts perpetuate this style craze. Personal stylist Rachel Zoe included leggings in her list of top 10 Fall must-haves in InStyle magazine. Style icon Rihanna rocks edgy Rodarte while Nicki Minaj is a fan of Alexander McQueen highlighter yellow leggings. Designer labels such as Stella McCartney, Siwy, and many others have included this trend in their collections.

One of the most fabulous perks of the legging trend includes its easy transition from runway to real life. No one has to spend $500 on the latest pair of Alice + Olivia sequined leggings. Instead, imitate this look at more pocket friendly places like Urban Outfitters, Free People, and Forever 21.

Hint: Long layering tops are an easy go-to with any pair of leggings but why not be a little more creative? I suggest layering leggings with a pair of shorts like these denim ones from Urban Outfitters. These floral leggings from Alternative Apparel are an affordable and stylish option. You can also accessorize with a pair of ankle socks and lace up boots from Forever 21. Throw on a chunky scarf and you are all set!
