STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Fallin’ for Brights

Style Advice of the Week

Fall is no doubt my favorite season of the year, but a limited palette of dark neutrals can get a little stale. While these shades will always be classic for the colder months, I can’t help but yearn for the bright colors that proved so popular for summer. That’s why I am thrilled to see the bold shade trend making it’s way into fall! I caught up with this stylish student who was not afraid to bring a good dose of color to her autumn ensemble.

We all know this time of year usually calls for grey, brown and black. But for those who want to pull away from the ordinary autumn color wheel, punchy colors that complement your skin tone are the perfect item. But don’t take it from me. Make note of Tracy Reese’s fall 2012 runway. She shows bright oranges, yellows and even purples for the cold weather season. This week’s Fashionista donned an awesome color block coral and fuchsia sweater. The coral works perfectly with her grey infinity scarf and boots. I also adore her Aztec-inspired necklace!

Summer was all about neon and vivid citrus shades, but fall calls for a more toned down version. Be sure to select a shade that will stand out on standard autumn pieces, like how this Fashionista’s bright sweater pops against simple black jeans. Since color block styles are still hot this year, I suggest checking out this gem by J.Crew. This bright pink purl knit by Forever 21 is also a great option. This awesome coat from Free People is an amazing way to incorporate some color into your cold-weather attire. But remember, brights aren’t limited to your clothing. A great bag or pair of shoes in a vivid shade would absolutely do the trick of punching up your wardrobe.

So, as this Fashionista proves, no need to pack away the brights yet. They’ll be just what the doctor ordered to keep your fall wardrobe upbeat.
