STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Fall Jacket

Style Advice of the Week

The weather can really make or break an outfit. This last weekend, for example, the weather was beautiful but it was just nippy enough to require a light jacket. Over the years I’ve certainly found lighter jackets that I’ve loved (my latest obsession is a secondhand J.Crew Chino jacket that resembles this coat from Urban Outfitters sans “bubble” effect), but I’ve never found one that I felt was perfectly suited for all occasions. And then I ran into today’s Fashionista, whose gray jacket is both cute and super versatile for fall.

Today’s Fashionista’s jacket, with its soft, brushed-fleece-like composition looks almost like wool but without so much insulation. Such a fabric is perfect for a jacket like this because it is neither too casual nor too formal for any look. I adore the three-quarter sleeve look with the band and button at the end, giving the jacket a trendier, less structured feel than you might get with a full-length blazer. The collar and the double-breasted design with the gold buttons both give the jacket nice structure, and the gray color means that this piece could go with just about any look. A final aspect of this jacket’s design that I really like is the length. The shorter cut lets elongates today’s Fashionista’s figure and doesn’t overwhelm the look. When searching for your perfect fall jacket, be sure to keep color, material, and length in mind. Try stores like Banana Republic and the Gap for shorter jackets in more neutral shades.

She completes her look with a basic black tank, jeans, and a pair of black and tan wedges– giving her jacket center stage.
