Style Advice of the Week

This week's Fashionista's style was all in the details. She first caught my eye with her bold makeup and bun: my absolute favorite hairstyle for fall. Her sheer top was a beautiful fall orange, and the floral dot print was subtle and complimented the rest of her look. I like that she chose to tuck in her top, showing off her leather belt. Her high-waist chambray shorts were a comfortable alternative to denim and they allowed a peek at her tattoo. Lastly, her choice in jewelry made the look, from her bracelets to her eclectic dinosaur necklace. This look works because fashion shouldn't be too serious for dinosaur necklaces.

Get inspired by this Fashonista's quirky accessories for your next outfit. I prefer fun fashion to “serious” fashion. The key is to make sure you feel carefree—not silly. If you are still feeling rigid, check out my favorite imaginative designers like Jeremy Scott, Betsey Johnson and Meadham Kirchhoff. Also, look into Pitusa, which is a young and super comfortable brand. Think neon rave colors meets your favorite t-shirt.

Etsy is a great place for one of a kind pieces and DIY ideas. Right now I'm really into jewelry featuring Simpsons characters, sequin collars and, of course, dinosaurs. Although pinterest is the reigning queen in DIY ideas, I still find the most original experimentation on Tumblr. If there are any accessories from the runway this season you adore, get creative and figure out a way to DIY. Even if you're not successful it can't hurt to try your hand at fashion experimentation.

Getting dressed shouldn't seem like a chore, I prefer to think of it as a Betsey Johnson runway show. College is the time to channel your inner Cyndi Lauper and “just have fun.”
