Denim hit the catwalks for resort 2011 (always my favourite shows of the year) with Chanel — it was retro chic and super washed out. For Prada, it was folk meets Flamenco. Stella McCartney hit us up with some tailored pieces. For day, night, casual, whatever, denim can be worn in a host of different ways. It is so practical and always appears again and again in new collections. This summer I have seen some fabulous Fashionistas wearing quirky denim dresses around Scotland's capital.
This Fashionista stood out because of the way she had styled her denim number. Her dress was an unusual take on the denim trend and she wore it so well. It was Marilyn Monroe meets Courtney Love. She wore her short style with tights and military boots (as you'll have probably notice these are a staple for Edinburgh Fashionistas!) She cinched her waist with a cute leopard, vintage style belt and styled herself with a slick of red nail varnish and of course a smooth red lip. Her tattoos and hair colour set the look of beautifully and with a seductive edge.
To get this look avoid the country bumpkin style denim dress and opt for a sexier cut. Military boots look great, why not add a pair of ripped tights or stockings? Keep accessories feminine and quirky, make a statement with makeup and hair — a classic red lip and a pop of colour on nails.
Hint: For a super retro rock and roll look, add a headscarf and pin up style curls.
