STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crazy for Collars

Style Advice of the Week

If you are anything like me, you’re nervous yet excited for these cool winds that have crept up on us this year. You’re nervous in the fact that you still have piles and piles of summer clothes, and now what are you supposed to do with them? I’m all about keeping fashion budget friendly in any sense possible so I say put down your laptop, head to your closet and follow our lead as this week’s Fashionista and I take your favorite items from hot days to even colder nights!

The dress is such a simple piece, yet such a statement maker. This fall I have witnessed so many trends and styles across the board, but one that has stuck with me has been the collar. The collar can be found in several different forms such as necklace form, in a detachable form to add that zing to an outfit, a shirt or my favorite, on a dress. With designers such as Phillip Lim and Tory Burch highlighting the collar in this year’s New York Fashion Week, they make it easy to take your summer clothing, add a collar and make it appeal to the fall weather in just minutes! As a fellow Fashionista to you Fashionistas and Fashionistos out there, I say we take this trend and do more than a run with it — we need to sprint with this idea!

This week’s Fashionista does an amazing job brightening up a dull day with her collared dress! She literally took this collar idea and sprinted away with it, adding it onto a black lace dress. Her addition of black studded loafers and navy blue tights with little pink hearts to add some detail and color (which we loved on last week’s Fashionista) has this Fashionista taking the collar trend to a new height! The black on white creates a refined yet stylish look and keeps the Fashionista warm throughout the day!

To imitate this look and participate in the collar trend, visit websites such as Urban Outfitters and NASTY GAL. And remember, they say it’s bad to be crazy, but make that exception for collars!
