Ask the most fashionable person you know to describe their style. Very rarely does this garner a one-word response. While most of us identify closely with one style of clothing, such as boho, classic, edgy, or feminine, we are complex and ever changing, and as a result, so is our style. Never have I ever encountered a fashion-lover who chose to describe their rockin’ sense of style by pigeon-holing themselves into one category. I’ll usually get some sort of combination of things, like: boho with an edge, or modern and structured with an air of femininity.
There is nothing I love more in an outfit than a good contradiction. Turning a classic silhouette on its head by throwing on a studded bangle or some sky-high Jeffrey Campbells is a great way to keep your look multi-faceted and represent the many different layers of you.
This Fashionista, a Senior Advertising student here at UM, throws an otherwise strictly feminine outfit off its axis by artfully selecting this structured, white tuxedo blazer from BCBG to pull it all together. Her Report flats are the epitome of fun and flirty, with their daintily pointed toes, ballerina pink hue and wrapped bow detail. Her navy striped top throws a bit of nautical into the mix, but the blazer is really the bold move here. The black-tie feel of this piece due to its cropped tailoring, clean lines and structure adds an element of power to her flirty ensemble and really has that edge to kick a cute outfit up a few notches into truly stylish territory. Want this look for yourself? Try this Vero Moda cropped blazer, or one in this stone color from Lipsy for an easier transition into fall. Oh, and her adorable paint palette iPhone case from Etsy is just the icing on top of the pink, nautical, modern cupcake that is this fearless Fashionista.
You’re not simple, so why let your outfits be?
