STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Casually Chic

Style Advice of the Week

A beach bike seems to be the most complementary accessory with this Fashionista’s casual yet trendy ensemble. Like a cool Californian, she effortlessly cruised her way to classes in a sleeveless light blue cropped button-up, comfortable black legging jeans and black patent Dr. Martens boots.

Along with an effortless and perfectly messy topknot hairdo, this Fashionista embodies the cool girl effect by making a simple and comfortable outfit chic and covetable. So far fall hasn’t really made a lasting impression here in southern California. It's been a confusing forecast with 80-something degrees even though it’s the end of October. This Fashionista has taken that into consideration by pairing a breezy collared top with black leggings and boots, lightweight for warmth, and comfortable yet still stylish for traveling around campus all day.

As college students with busy schedules, we sometimes want to opt for more simple and casual looks instead of dressing up every single day. Take note from this Fashionista and know that such looks can still be fashionable even without outerwear or piled-on accessories. Take a look at my top picks for the week and recreate this outfit for your next day of class.

Ofelia Sheer Blouse from Furor Moda: This cream sheer sleeveless blouse is versatile, casual and chic. It’s perfect for both beating the heat and layering for fall.

Life In Progess Skinny Jeans from Forever 21: Its basic and the soft stretchy fit is ideal for running around campus and the black color makes matching with any top effortless.

Macho Black Patent Laceup Boots from Topshop: For half the price of Dr. Martens boots get a similar pair that are just as comfortable and edgy. Can you say chic bargain?

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Casually Chic

Style Advice of the Week

As the winter months approach, getting ready for class can seem like more of a chore than a joy. But never fear stylish readers, I’m here to help. There are chic, comfy ways to look exceptionally stylish on your trek to class; it’s all in the details!

This Fashionista looked effortlessly chic with a military twist on an unseasonably warm day in State College. She epitomized campus casual in an awesome, multifaceted ensemble. This Fashionista paired an adorable pair of cuffed cargo chinos with a flowy pink chiffon top, suede black booties and leather jacket. She accessorized with a darling pair of retro shades, neon accented bag and a ton of amazing jewelry. As a lover of all things bold and chunky, I adored her array of rings, bracelets, menswear watch and statement necklace.  But, her most noteworthy addition was her amazing vintage unicorn belt (literally obsessed). This lovely melding of different textures, materials and metals was expertly executed in a sophisticated, yet campus appropriate manner. Her ability to incorporate several different fabrics made her outfit interesting. She looked fashionable, yet comfortable for a full day of classes.

When selecting your outfit, pick pieces in materials that are versatile and easy to layer for the chillier months. While warmth was not this Fashionista’s primary goal, her melding of materials is something that should be emulated even on the coldest winter days. I suggest a leather or shiny legging and a plaid button-down with a heavy denim shirt. If you’re feeling particularly daring, try a fur vest too. Remember, the key is to be comfy, but have fun with your outfit. So get creative and do it big!
