Once you start wearing your bomber, you’re not going to want to stop. You’ll probably start to plan all of your outfits around it. Thoughts like, Will my pleated skirt and a pair of oxfords go with the jacket? will run through your mind each morning.
Why? Because these coats are totally on trend—in that too-cool-for-school sort of way—and they compliment pretty much anything in your wardrobe. They even work layered over a cute skater dress and Keds (for those Indian summer days). Plus, they are the ultimate “light jacket”—pretty close, I’d imagine, to the one Cheryl describes in Miss Congeniality.
This Fashionista chose to sport all black with her bomber – including combat boots, skinnies and a V-neck – which makes for a look that’s one part collegiate, three parts casual grunge. The reason why it’s so eye-catching is probably because of the detail in her Uniqlo coat. The sleeves and arrowhead embroidered pockets are anything but boring, and you’ve got your pick of some pretty neat designs, too.
If you think it’s important to keep your autumn layers neutral, check out the leather from Mint Velvet and the snakeskin from River Island. If you prefer a prettier twist on the style, French Connection offers a lace version. If you’re not afraid to get funky, though, the ‘Teddy’ by Joe’s comes with plaid felt, and here’s some tapestry print (which, as you probably know, is really in right now).
If you already bought yourself a Varsity jacket last season—that still counts. The silhouettes are so similar that it really doesn’t make sense to splurge on a new one. Unless, of course, you’re lusting over a silk bomber with a crazy pattern, because we’ve always got room for killer pieces like that in our closet.
