STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bold Bottoms

Style Advice of the Week

There is nothing more eye-catching than a pair of colored jeans. I fell in love with this Fashionista’s take on colored denim instantly. She is showing just the right amount of pop and did a great job working with the color too. By displaying just a hint of the jeans and keeping within the color family with a purple hued coat, this Fashionista managed to expertly wear an intense pair of pants. I also really love the edgy feel to the blouse. Skulls are such a fun trend right now. They make a great statement and are the perfect match for the bold, blue jeans.

Colored jeans are a great look for all seasons. I know that personally last spring I scoured high and low for the perfect pair of mint jeans, and once I found these beauties from Hudson, I basically lived in them. The best thing about colored jeans is how easy they make it to be fashionable and trendy. Colored jeans in themselves can make quite the statement, so if you're not up to creating an intense look, just slip on a pair of colored pants and keep the rest of the outfit simple with an oversized sweater and classic riding boots.

If, like our Fashionista, you aren’t afraid to make a bold statement, I would recommend following in her footsteps and pairing your colored bottoms with a printed top. This polka-dotted sweater from Madewell would look fabulous with a pair of dark red jeans. When taking this bold approach I would recommend staying within a similar color family and keeping your accessories neutral, so as to not come off as too overwhelming.

So next time you're buying jeans remember to try thinking outside the box and look for a denim pair in a fun and vibrant hue!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bold Bottoms

Style Advice of the Week

I know, I know, the amount of times I’ve talked about oxblood as the color for fall on this site might be a little over the top. However, when I spotted this week’s Fashionista, I couldn’t help but think about oxblood once more. Summer 2012 was a great time for colored pants. Bright, rich hues like cobalt blue, fire engine red and even hot pink dominated the street style trends. While it can be tough to work some of those more eye-catching colors into fall fashion, a deeper burgundy can be the perfect alternative. It’s evident that the bright pant trend is going anywhere anytime soon, but luckily, I stumbled upon this Fashionista who demonstrates how to make the look more fall appropriate.

It can be tough to make a plain look more exciting without adding something printed. This Fashionista helps keep her outfit from appearing too simple with bold pants and turquoise stone earrings. A crisp white t-shirt and belted cardigan let the pants become the focal point of the outfit. This Fashionista gives us a wearable take on the season’s most popular color.

To recreate this look for yourself, a dark, but colorful pant is essential. If oxblood isn’t the color for you, try a forest green, like these ones from Asos. A thick neutral sweater, like this one, adds structure to keep the outfit from being too bland. Finish the look off with velvet smoking slippers; the perfect alternative on days you want to give your boots a break. Fun accessories, like this Fashionista’s turquoise earrings add a nice contrast of color and texture. Perfect for Sunday lounging, classes or running errands, an unexpected pop of color will brighten even the dreariest of days.
