Style Advice of the Week

Looking professional can be hard, especially for a college student. In between classes, meetings, presentations and general socializing, college life can be hectic and busy. However a lot of these things require students to look generally pulled together, while still looking young and relaxed. I was really drawn to this Fashionista’s casual, yet classic approach to a professional outfit. The Fashionista told me she was being featured on a campus morning show and needed to look put together at a very early hour, and still be able to move forward with the rest of her day afterwards.

Her outfit is simple but fun. It’s not over the top and it's not too conservative either. Her jewelry is neutral, but manages to stand out. The earrings definitely make a statement, but the rest of the outfit is fairly minimal so they work really well. My favorite part though is the color blocked blazer. I love how the all black outfit really lets the white block of the blazer stand out.

Blazers are a great college essential. In the past I think they have carried somewhat of a stigma for being stuffy and elderly. However, recently blazers have been given a chance to shine on the fashion scene, thanks to brands like J.Crew. Blazers no longer have to be traditional either; they come in many fun variations, like the color blocked one this Fashionista is wearing. You can find blazers in trendy colors like this mint green one from Elizabeth and James or ones with fun patterns like this swan printed one from ASOS. You can even find fashion-forward blazers like this angular one by Helmut Lang.

There are infinite ways to dress up or dress down a blazer. So if you don’t already own a great blazer I would highly recommend snatching one up. Whatever option you choose just remember to have fun with it.
