STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Black and White Affair

Style Advice of the Week

There’s something about the immaculateness of black and white that appeals to my daydreams of the perfect home: a sleek, white walled apartment in the city, open air and natural light, a simple silver clothes rack adorned with my favorite black pieces and a walk-in shoe closet (a girl can dream, right?). Light and dark, positive and negative space, ying and yang—black and white are pure, classic and the pinnacle of contrast. Black and white are consistently seen on the runway and are always being reinvented with interesting prints, hem lines and fabrics.

This week’s Fashionista was seen in a black and white micro polka-dot dress paired with a black blazer and black tights. She completed her look with a black bowlers hat and black oxfords. Keeping her accessories and jacket black really make her dress pop and become the focal point of her outfit. My favorite way to pull together a black and white outfit is with bright lips—a deep red is perfect for fall and adds instant sophistication to your look. Another great way to style a black and white outfit is with hints of gold jewelry. For a day-time look, pair this white dotted crop top with a high-waisted pleated skirt. For cooler days add on black tights and a faux leather crop jacket. Black and white are a no-brainer for nighttime looks–I’m in love with the details of this dress from Free People; it’d look great with black platforms, beach waves, and a deep, red matte lipstick. Maybe everything is better in black and white.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Black and White Affair

Uncategorized

Tired of all the colours that have marked the fashion season so far like bright pink, hot neon and striking tangerine? Go in for black and white instead! Pairing black and white looks classy and chic, no matter where and when you decide to wear it or how you will choose to interpret it.

Today’s Fashionista effortlessly rocks classic colour combo by blending black and white colours together and keeping this colour duo interesting with texture, patterns and embellishments. The combination of black cigarette cut pants, suede wedges, black patent-leather bag and black and white knitted cardigan creates a contrasting and creative ensemble. I admire the ways in which this Fashionista teams different fabrics such as sheers, leather and chunky knitwear and that way adds different elements of texture to her outfit. Also, I could not miss beautiful black feather necklace. This bird-like decoration adds a fresh and unique edge to the whole outfit.

There are many ways to express and rock the sophisticated black and white colour palette. Therefore, when you wear black and white, it is important to work it with your body shape.  The combination of the contrasting B&W hues can add girth while black is very slimming. Another key to pulling off this colour-blind trend is to mix the softer elements of sheer fabrics or delicate details with sharper tailoring. Since, there are no colours to help out, it is essential that the black and white ensemble is well tailored and draped.
