The first snow has come very early in Knoxville, and UT students’ winter wear is out in full force. Along with the cold weather, it is also finals time, so UGGs and North Face jackets seem to be the clothing of choice for most students this week. While clothes like UGGS and North Face jackets are certainly warm, they usually do not stand out or make a statement; that’s why today’s Fashionista caught my eye. Among the sea of brown and black UGGs and jackets, her bright green coat really stands out.
A few weeks ago, my post showed the versatility of a white winter coat, but a bright coat like this Fashionista’s can be just as versatile and on trend. By pairing a denim skirt with brown tights and navy Converse sneakers, this Fashionista keeps the rest of her outfit neutral so her coat can be the highlight of her outfit. To add another pop of color to her ensemble, this Fashionista accessorized with a bright orange over-the-shoulder bag. (This blend of citrusy colors is reminiscent of a look worn by Leighton Meester on Gossip Girl – check out how she paired her green coat with bright yellow accessories).
Besides being stylish, a bright coat or bag can really lift your spirits on a gloomy winter day, as evidenced by this Fashionista. Even though the temperature was in the 20s on the day I took this picture, this Fashionista had a bright smile to match her bright outerwear. On those mornings when you really don’t want to get out of bed, knowing you have a bright, pretty coat to put on can really lift your mood.
Since green is not a typical winter color, bright green coats are a little hard to come by, but you can get the look with this coat from dELiA’s. Green not your color? Try a bright yellow coat from ModCloth or a hot pink coat from Old Navy.
