From afar, this Fashionista looks quite plain with a solid colored blazer, jeans and a scarf. However, when taken in up-close it is clear a lot of thought was put into this outfit. This Fashionista highlights a few of fall’s and winter’s hottest trends: menswear with her blazer, a vintage feel with the loafers and a light scarf to balance the look. Although these pieces work together, each is unique in itself.
Let’s start with the blazer. A light navy blue jacket is a great staple for the transitioning weather and this Fashionista has found one with a little twist. This jacket has pleating along the waistline that reminded me of a gladiator’s metal chest plate, while a hint of feisty leopard print is visible on the rolled up sleeve. She then ties this print in top-to-bottom with a hint of leopard-print socks peeking out below her cuffed jeans. To finish the look, this Fashionista chose a pair of gold loafers; a modern twist on a classic look. When walking around campus it is clear that loafers have made a strong comeback as the shoe of choice for both Fashionistas/os, but this particular pair lends a fun and creative air to a simple outfit. Finally, a light pink scarf with subtle texturized detail balances and softens the central menswear elements.
Although we’ve all hunkered down in preparation for a classic, bitter east coast winter, a surprising number of mild (dare I say warm) days have jolted our systems. Fashionistas are taking advantage by mixing summer pieces with transitional wear to create a “middle season” look that is, thankfully, not as confused as the atmosphere. This Fashionista’s light-wash cuffed jeans and light pink scarf let us look forward to a time when the blazer will be shed and the scarf will be draped over a fresh white blouse as an accessory instead of a necessity.
