Gray skies are going to clear up, so put on a happy face. However, while they remain we must cope with the small section of our closet that global warming will never seem to effect: the sweatshirt-sweater. It’s a strange phenomenon, really, one that espouses our inner layering gurus while simultaneously bordering on just-got-out-of- bed chic without the right accessories. It’s a style that every Fashionista seems to explore as the going gets tough and we find ourselves in bed five minutes before our first classes.
I think Fashionistas everywhere let out a sigh of relief as they browsed through the 2012 ad campaigns and found that designers have finally legitimized the lazy side within us all. Enter the sweatshirt jacket — the name given to our rainy day option with lapels. Its passing mark is its clean cut-appearance. Paired with gray tones like in Maje’s new fall campaign with our favorite comfortable style guru Alexa Chung in tweed with rolled up sleeves, or loose and lapeled.
This Fashionista takes on fall fashion with her neutral palette — a simple mix of similar colors and a pop of pattern in her snakeskin bag. She maintains her own preppy flair with the sweater's faux double-breasted feature. While in the winter this look is the perfect pairing for this season’s moto boots, this Fashionista throws us back to the days of Rayanne Graff and Kelly Kapowski: comfy chic is perfected to a tee with these made-for-walking mocassins. So while these gray skies remain, put on a happy face and stick to your gray-on-gray — gloomy weather never looked better.
