As we come into the last leg of summer, it is time to start looking to the coming school year and begin the transition into fall. Of course, the temperatures don’t quite allow for the layering associated with fall, so we have to get creative. One way to do this is by incorporating bold and intricate pieces into your wardrobe, like the pieces seen throughout Kenzo’s fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection. Kenzo is known for creating quirky and eye catching prints, and this collection was no exception. Many looks resembled works of modern art with rich colors and graphic prints but could still easily be worn by the everyday Fashionista.
I chose to embody this daring aesthetic with a multi-patterned dress from Anthropologie. The dress itself has not one, but two adventurous prints. The main print is an abstract watercolor of magenta, yellow and black. This is the perfect light color palette for transitioning into fall. The black and white panel covering the back of the dress resembles a delicate lace and further personifies this transition period.
The last thing you want to do is accessorize in a way that competes with the print of the dress. Go for a statement without visually overloading the ensemble by rocking a layered silver chain necklace. Gilded accessories are right on trend for fall and are perfect for adding dimension to any outfit. I chose to pair my dress with a vintage statement necklace with large silver heart pendants. I then added some much needed warmth to the look by pairing it with chocolate brown boots.
This look can easily be transitioned from day to night. With my hair already swept up into a fresh and sophisticated braid, all I need is a quick swipe of bright lipstick and a shoe change to make this the perfect ensemble for an end-of-summer event or drinks with friends.
