Derek Lam’s Crosby 10 spring 2014 collection left me wanting to travel the world or at least dress the part. The use of neutral colors and loose silhouettes makes this collection perfect for summer inspiration! My favorite detail was that none of these pieces were complicated or too intricate. Sometimes we think that we have to wear fitted clothing to look put together but this collections shows that there is nothing more flattering than a little extra fabric.
I decided to try some black wide-legged pants. I needed to be a little more dressed up for a networking event and decided that a dark bottom would be more professional. I stuck with his theme of simple and paired my pants with an orange top. I think Derek Lam would have been proud of the minimalistic, stitched in collar on my top. He didn’t use much color in his collection but I needed an outfit with more of a take-charge vibe so I used this bright orange to give my outfit a pop.
This spring 2014 show inspired me to finally take my wide-legged pants out for a spin! I was afraid of looking like I had just finished performing at a circus, but thankfully that was not the case. Sometimes it is better to keep things simple! I adored this collection and will definitely continue to take inspiration from it. I am officially now on the hunt for a 10 Crosby-inspired jacket.
