STYLE GURU STYLE: Winter Blooms

I often find myself asking how Vera Wang does it. From her bridal gowns to her ready-to-wear collections, everything she creates is nothing short of a masterpiece. Her resort 2015 show is no exception. The show flawlessly combined whimsical floral prints and menswear inspired pieces, reminding me of a music festival taking place on Wall Street. All of the models accessorized with scarf style headbands that would make even Blair Waldorf swoon. I love the masculine silhouettes that have been popping up on fashion blogs and runways for the past few seasons, and Wang does an incredible job of softening these silhouettes with airy fabrics and beautiful florals in muted tones.

Feeling inspired by the show, today I decided to break free from my winter uniform of sweatpants and T-shirts to venture into the fascinating world of winter floral prints. This flouncy chiffon romper immediately reminded me of the prints I had seen throughout the show. But, the fresh layer of snow outside my window quickly reminded me that I live in the arctic tundra, formally known as Michigan, and I needed to add some layers to my outfit. I added a mohair sweater over the top and wore a pair of tights for some extra warmth. To channel some of the masculinity from the show, I wore a green chiffon blazer and my favorite pair of structured ankle boots. I felt that these pieces added some much needed depth to my ultra feminine romper.

Vera Wang’s resort 2015 show has motivated me to experiment with mixing different styles and textures to create a completely new look. I have also been inspired to take my love of the menswear trend and incorporate it into my spring wardrobe.

Get My Look: 1. A floral chiffon romper. 2. Structured ankle boots. 3. A menswear inspired blazer.
