STYLE GURU STYLE: White Sneakers Are Here to Stay

The Hood By Air spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection was a combination of edgy school uniforms with bondage elements in minimal, neutral shades. Zippers and spliced panels were seen on most of the clothing worn by the models, which consisted of both men and women. The collection was rather androgynous, with men wearing skirts and dresses. As bold as the clothing was, the colors were all very basic and neutral: lots of beige, black and white.

Taking inspiration from this collection, I opted for a more preppy knit dress in a neutral gray color. I got school uniform vibes from this dress, so I felt it fit with the Hood By Air collection. Though it is not shredded and covered in zippers, it is extremely comfortable and easy to wear for everyday looks. I added my large shopper bag which I also felt was appropriate due to its shape and design that embody the minimalist aesthetic. When I don’t wear a lot of accessories, I always feel an oversized bag helps make up for it.

My favorite part of the collection that I was able to incorporate into my look was the white sneakers that most of the models wore. The white sneaker trend has been huge, and as far as I can tell, it is not going anywhere! I’ve always owned a pair of adidas Superstars, and as soon as I saw that adidas released a pair with gold detailing, I was all over them. White sneakers are extremely versatile and have almost become an alternative to black flats, which we all know are a closet staple. You can dress them up or down and they always add that cool girl look to your outfit no matter what.

The Hood By Air collection can easily be translated into more wearable, everyday looks because of the basic, neutral pieces. Keep in mind the schoolyard theme, and look for simple garments in neutral colors. If you want to be inspired by the collection, then get artsy and cut up a piece to create something unique. Anything with lots of zippers will also work!
