STYLE GURU STYLE: White Out

The runway saw a mix of traditional Latin American textiles and bold styles at J.Crew’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear fashion show. Between the combinations of men’s work wear to sleepwear, the collection captivated fashion gurus with its mix-and-match razzle-dazzle. While there were a few standout pieces, such as the slightly oversized jackets and mesh basketball shorts, the collection sparked the idea of simplicity when putting together an outfit.

Inspired by the collection, I decided to create an outfit from all the looks that came down the runway. Thankfully all the snow has gone, so when creating an all-white outfit, I did not have to worry about blending into everything around me. While I would have never thought white on white was a good choice, this collection showed me just how it could be done. I started with white jeans, which I cuffed to look similar to many of the looks in the collection. Wanting to keep the outfit simple, I paired the white pants with a flowing white shirt with minimal black detail around the neck and sleeves. One of my favorite parts of J.Crew’s collection were the fun and vibrant shoes that added color to the outfits. For my own look, I added heeled sandals that are covered in bright colors for that fun, spring look.

Of course, no outfit is complete with the right accessories. As seen on the runway, clutches were the go-to choice for a spring bag. I added a studded black clutch to tie in with the black trim on my shirt. A white watch and shimmering earrings finished off my inspired look. I also chose to add a pair of sunglasses for those sunny spring days.

J.Crew’s collection gave me new ideas of how to wear the same color throughout my outfit without overdoing it. I really enjoyed stepping out of my usual comfort zone boldly colored outfits and trying this simple white look.

Get My Look: 1. White cuffed jeans. 2. A simple white shirt. 3. Boldly colored sandals, in the color of your choice. 4. A clutch for carrying the essentials.
