“She wears a white dress, she sees the light and it’s saying come back” . . . Are there any Parachute fans out there? I hope so. Every time I pull this old classic dress out of my closet, I not-so-softly sing that tune. I scored this awesome find a few years ago on a sale rack at H&M for ten dollars! Can you believe that? Now I’ll admit it was not perfect. It was a tad overbearing for my 5’2″ frame, so I needed to shorten the hemline. After that simple fix though, I was left with a new wardrobe staple: my LWD, or little white dress.
It was perfect timing because LWD became all the rage a few summers ago and really never went away. Carlos Miele featured this style all over his resort 2014 collection. This eccentric Brazilian typically shows a much more eclectic collection but decided to tone it down this summer. The results were flawless. The LWDs were accompanied by adorable shocking pink dresses and daring black gowns that resembled liquid metal. Some cobalt blue and yellow-tinted snakeskin pieces were thrown in as well, but in my opinion the light-hued minis took the cake.
If you are trying this look at home, remember one thing: white dresses are definitely not as forgiving as little black dresses. So ensuring the right fight is essential. Steer clear of dresses that are too tight and go for ones that hug your curves just right!
I have one last tip if you are even the least bit as clumsy as I am (which for your sake, I hope you aren’t), leave this dress at home if you are going out to dinner, a bar or anywhere you may encounter stain-inflicting substances. There is almost no getting pasta sauce or red wine out of this fabric!
