STYLE GURU STYLE: Whimsical White

As the weather heats up (kind of) and springtime seems more plausible, warmer colors and more trends come along with it. Along with the timeless florals is a color coming up to the stage: white. In the Electric Feathers spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, designer Leana Zuniga showed exactly that. Her monochromatic flow of the crisp and flowy whites made me want to be in a tropical destination where winter and dark colors are never conversed about. The oversized shapes that Zuniga displays, including harem pants and caftans, contribute beautifully to her “sporty yet soigné” woman. These feminine looks reminded me of a European meets Middle Eastern-chic type of fashion. With pieces that can easily go from day to night, Zuniga’s collection seems completely functional yet effortless.

So today I tried to match Electric Feathers and its homage to white. Since I’m not in a tropical destination, I went with my cozy white peacoat. I love that the frill on one side of the coat gives it a girly feel when the freezing cold might not make me feel so feminine. While my coat was keeping my body warm, my favorite pair of thick black tights were keeping my legs from frostbite. I decided to wear a black skater skirt to give the coat even more flare from underneath. As a fun pop of color, I wore one of my cheetah sweaters that has a tint of peach in it for the springtime.

This spring 2015 show showed me how easy it is keep things simple and to incorporate so many different looks with just one color. White is much more versatile than I believed to be before and creates a sense of harmony in an outfit. Hopefully it will become easier to use this trend with warmer weather here soon!
