STYLE GURU STYLE: When In Doubt

You can really never go wrong with a black and white combo. It’s a truly timeless combination that will work for any occasion. What usually makes monochromatic outfits interesting besides the fact white is generally a visual relief, is the cut of the clothing. Wearing black and white clothing with unique geometric cuts or tears adds more edge to a simple outfit.

One of the trends in recent seasons are capes, there are thicker winter capes, but also thinner capes that are on trend for spring and summer 2015 like that in Maison Kitsune’s collection. In her collection there are a lot of soft spring colors, like the pink cape coat. However I chose a white cape blazer instead of a coat because it’s more functional and very easy to transition to different seasons and occasions.

In this look I’m wearing a white cape blazer that goes a bit below my hip, which I find to be more slimming because blazers can sometimes look bulky since the shoulders are very structured. Also since it’s summer I paired it with a black bralette that has a crisscross neckline detail and a pair of black high-waisted asymmetrical shorts. I kept the accessories very simple, as I wanted the white blazer to be the focus. I wore a black chocker that went along with the details on the bralette and a few simple silver rings to add some edge to the outfit. My black and white clutch incorporated another trend this spring and summer, which are stripes and going along with the theme of lines and stripes, I wore a pair of simple strappy heels.

This blazer can add class to any look and is very versatile. For a more casual look I would recommend pairing this blazer with a gray V-neck T-shirt, a pair of black distressed jeans and white low top sneakers for a everyday look.

Get My Look:1. Cape Blazer. 2. Bralette. 3. Asymmetrical Shorts.
