STYLE GURU STYLE: What’s Poppin’?

My everyday style can be summed up into two words: simple and comfy. I like to have as much sleep as possible, so sticking with basic pieces allows for different but also easy outfit combinations when I roll out of bed in the morning. Monochromatic colors such as blacks, whites and grays are my go-to because they can be effortlessly paired to look cohesive and well put-together. Since this color scheme is more subdued, accessorizing with bold prints or pops of colors is how I like to add more personality to any outfit.

Here I am wearing my favorite pair of BDG black skinny jeans from Urban Outfitters. These are a staple in my wardrobe, and are a definite upgrade from black leggings in the colder months. I went with a more minimal look and paired the skinny jeans with a white blouse from Uniqlo. Texture is an important component to my everyday outfit, and this blouse is soft and light enough for me to move freely throughout the day. Unlike most white blouses, this one provides enough coverage without making anything look see-through. I love black-on-black especially when it comes to pants and shoes, because this combination elongates the legs. Here I am wearing black booties which add a feminine flair and complements the blouse. The thick heel also adds support which makes them comfortable enough to walk to class with.

History repeats itself and so do fashion trends. I got this oversized knit cardigan from my dad, who wore it in the ’70s. It’s one of my favorite pieces in my entire wardrobe. It has a fun pattern that goes with the color scheme, and is made of thick material so it keeps me warm during this time of the year.  The next accessory I want to highlight is my yellow backpack. Yellow is my favorite color, and I love how it stands out from the rest of my outfit. For me, style is a way to express myself. By having accent pieces that resonate with who you are, no one could truly jack your style.
