STYLE GURU STYLE: What's Black And White With A Pop Of Color?

Black and white are two colors that I believe can be worn year-round. They can be incorporated with pops of color (such as makeup or accessories) or worn strictly by themselves. I also appreciate the minimalism of wearing black and white, especially in the summer. Minimalism can go a long way—at least it always has in my closet.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Diane von Furstenberg (also quite psyched that she’s part of the reason why there’s now a fashion law program!). Her spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection is inspiring and proves my aforementioned point of minimalism prevailing. This collection was classic yet risk-taking with the play of patterns and colors. It was truly beautiful in the most simplistic way.

Inspired by this collection, my outfit is a prime example of minimalism. Wearing a printed top that flowed beautifully in the wind (perfect for hot summer days), I incorporated breezy high-waisted shorts. Feeling the need to dress up my casual look, I strutted in a uniquely patterned pair of chunky heels that were super easy to walk in during a day at the museum. I have this internal rule that I can’t go anywhere without a bag, so I rocked my favorite kate spade bag. I added a pop of color with MAC’s Rebel.

Black and white outfits will always be both timeless and chic and can either be dressed up or dressed down. You can wear the same outfit for day and night by first pairing it with comfortable shoes such as Birkenstocks, and then switching them out for heels once the sun sets.

Get My Look: 1. A patterned oversized black and white top. 2. Black breezy high-waisted shorts. 3. Chunky heels. 4. Urban Outfitters sunglasses.
