STYLE GURU STYLE: West Coast's Best Coat

While the California girl in me always longs to wear shorts and skirts, the Pacific Northwestern college girl in me says otherwise. However, I’ve found that with the right clothing pieces, such a complex problem can be easily solved while still keeping a stylish flair. For this winter season, Thakoon Addition’s pre-fall 2015 show really inspired me to juxtapose short length bottoms with long coats.

My happy medium in this cold weather falls in layering with a base of cozy tights and knee-high socks. To combat any potential rain this season, I have been rocking this sleek pair of rainproof Chelsea boots. Who said rain boots can’t be stylish, too? On top, I added a striped, long sleeve top.

My favorite winter coat of the season has been the hooded coat by Laundry that I’m wearing. This coat has multiple linings inside as well as a faux fur lined hood to block out the winter chills. Its gold accents give it that extra touch of elegance, which can brighten up and sophisticate practically any outfit. To complement the gold, I slung on a gold Eiffel Tower pendant necklace. The feature of this coat that really won me over was the fact that it has pockets on top of pockets! This allows you to keep your hands warm in your coat as well as keep some little belongings in your pocket, too.

My love for this coat along with the inspiration drawn from Thakoon Addition’s pre-fall 2015 style led me to create this look. I feel like the varying lengths provided by a long coat and a shorter bottom underneath adds just the right amount of complexity to an outfit. In reality, this form of fashionable complexity isn’t very complex at all. It’s as simple as variably selecting the lengths of pieces when you’re deciding what to wear for the day. In short, never be afraid to explore chic, complex looks because they may be easier to achieve than you think.

Get My Look: 1. Your favorite pair of shorts or a skirt (or a combination of the two). 2. Sheer black tights paired with thick knee-high socks. 3. An ultra-warm and cozy winter coat.
